Yellow! I go by the name Box, but I was born and raised as Brooke Angelo in upstate New York. I’m a Libra with a love for travel, new experiences, live music, and big laughs. Close friends nicknamed me “Box Johnson” at a time in my life when a spiritual awakening caused my legal name to feel less fitting.

I graduated from Alfred University in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a minor in Arts Management. Along with technique, art history and various processes, I learned an ineffable amount about myself. During this rigorous time of self exploration through visual arts, I was encouraged by a roommate to step way out of my comfort zone and into a contemporary dance class. The exchange of energy between dance partners is a powerful artistic medium I had never previously fully experienced. I also began a fruitful and pending journey into spirituality. Yoga, meditation, breathwork, psychedelics, and metaphysical healing found me along my path, feeding my insatiable curiosity.

My callings in visual art, music, dance, and connection were converging to shape the artist formerly known as “Brooke” into “Box”. Serendipitously, “box breathing” was the first breathwork technique I learned and the one I still use daily.

My goal in painting is to utilize the medium of energy exchanged between artist and viewer to create reciprocal art that transcends the physical realm.
